Africa Blockchain Center: IOG partners Cardano to conducts training

Rapidly evolving technologies such as decentralized ledgers require advanced education programs to boost adoption and innovation.

On August 7, 2023, Input Output Global (IOG)’s Education team went on-site to deliver a two-month-long Cardano blockchain training program in Nairobi, Kenya, in collaboration with the Africa Blockchain Center (ABC).

The Cardano blockchain training program conducted at the ABC site is a comprehensive two-month initiative aimed at equipping students with essential Haskell programming skills and the knowledge to create Plutus and Marlowe financial smart contracts.

The ABC is a leading organization dedicated to promote blockchain education, research, and adoption across the African continent. With a mission to empower individuals and businesses with relevant and applicable knowledge, the center serves as a hub for innovation and collaboration within the blockchain community.

The program started with a hybrid course covering the concepts of Haskell, Plutus, and Marlowe, led by Dr. Lars Brünjes, director of Education at IOG, and two teaching assistants from the Education team, Karina Lopez and Robertino Martinez. The course comprised two weeks of in-person training followed by six weeks of virtual training with topics such as:

  • Introduction to cryptocurrencies
  • Data types & functions
  • Concurrency and parallelism
  • Testing
  • Data structures

The Education team also contributed to a Twitter Space held by ABC and was part of a panel discussion on ‘State of Web3 In Kenya: Adoption of Web3 for service delivery in light of devolution’ during the Nairobi City Council’s Innovate Nairobi Tech Week.

IOG and ABC were delighted to collaborate on this initiative and provide the fundamental knowledge required to build on Cardano. Leading up to the program, Jeff Mkungusi, CEO at Africa Blockchain Center, had this to say:

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Input Output Global (IOG) to present this extensive Cardano blockchain training program. Through this initiative, we aim to empower individuals across the region with the knowledge and skills to excel in the rapidly evolving blockchain industry“.
