Binance donates $3 million to over 70.000 users in Morocco and $500k to over 13,000 users in Libya through $BNB airdrops.

In response to a recent earthquake that has so far claimed 2,901 lives in Marrakesh-Safi, Morocco, Binance has announced that it will airdrop up to $3 million in BNB to users who have been recognised as residing in the impacted areas.

With 2,901 reported fatalities and 5,530 confirmed injuries, the earthquake that struck the High Atlas Mountains in late September 2023 was the worst earthquake to strike North Africa since 1960 and its most violent in more than a century.

According to a press statement from CEO Changepeng Zhao (CZ), Binance Charity will support both Moroccan users and victims in the affected area who utilise the Binance app.

In Marrakesh-Safi Province, which has been most severely impacted, Proof of Address (POA) completed before September 9, 2023, will be used to identify users, according to Binance. Users in the Marrakesh-Safi Province who completed POA prior to this date will each receive $100 in BNB credited to their Binance accounts.

“We are aware that many users in the impacted area might not have finished POA at this time. Therefore, we will contribute $25 in BNB to their Binance account for each existing user who completes POA between September 9, 2023, and September 30, 2023.

Through airdrops, a euphemism for the delivery of free tokens or cryptocurrencies, active transacting users throughout Morocco who are not in the affected area will each receive $10 in BNB.

Around 70,000 Binance users who reside in Morocco, according to Binance, will take advantage of the airdrops beginning on September 12, 2023.

People sometimes lose access to regular banking in the wake of natural disasters, just when more funds are required to help cover food, medical supplies, and other basic necessities. As cryptocurrencies allow for quick, inexpensive, borderless, and transparent transactions, they are now being utilised more frequently to send money to catastrophe victims.

Additionally, Binance Charity said that it has opened a public donation address where anyone can send donations.

“To assist those in need, we will give the entire amount of cryptocurrency received on this address to a recognised NGO (to be notified soon). Donations in BNB, BTC, ETH, USDC, USDT, or BUSD can be made to the Emergency Earthquake Appeal.

In a similar vein, Binance will airdrop $100 in BNB to all users who have finished their Proof of Address (POA) in Libya in reaction to the devastation brought on by the recent floods in that country.

Based on POA completed nationwide prior to September 11, 2023, users will be identified.

“Users will earn $100 in BNB immediately into their Binance accounts if they complete POA by September 11th, 2023. After September 11, 2023, and before September 30, 2023, we will donate $25 in BNB to your Binance account for any current user who completes POA. Additionally, $10 in BNB will be distributed to every active users in Libya.
