MILLESTONE | After Reaching 950 Million Users, Telegram Will Open Its Own App Store in July 2024
The cloud-based messaging software, Telegram, will launch its own app store by the end of July 2024 after recording 950 million users, according to CEO and Founder, Pavel Durov.
On July 22, 2024, Durov tweeted on his channel, “To keep the fire going, this month, we will introduce a mini app store and an in-app browser with support for Web3-pages.” “The year 2024 will be remembered as the one when hundreds of millions of people first learnt about blockchain technology. Durov continued, “We’re honoured that Telegram is at the centre of this social revolution.
Although the software’s user base and ideas continue to grow, it has long been the target of scam attempts; the founder has acknowledged this and explained how the team is attempting to stop it.
We’ll also be working harder to combat con artists that prey on newcomers to the cryptocurrency space. Like Instagram, Telegram will soon start displaying the primary nation and the month of registration for public accounts. “We’ll also let companies label channels using their mini apps, establishing a decentralised market for third-party verification.”
The surge in user numbers coincides with the rise in popularity of blockchain-based games on Telegram, such NotCoin, which players tap to play. According to BitKE, NotCoin attracted over 30 million users in May 2024, making it a big global endeavour. Through their interactions with several TONNE services, such as TonKeeper, as well as other wallets, exchanges, and games, these individuals accrued points. Users could eventually be able to trade these points for tokens on exchanges, providing them with real worth.
According to Durov’s statement from November 2022, Telegram wants to provide decentralised tools, such as non-custodial wallets and decentralised exchanges, to safely enable cryptocurrency transactions for millions of users. He underlined that the blockchain industry can achieve its goal of empowering people and doing away with the need for centralised middlemen with innovations like the Open Network (TONNE).
In order to facilitate decentralised services including decentralised storage, anonymous networks, DNS, and quick payments via a proof-of-stake (PoS) mechanism, Telegram officially launched The Open Network, or TONNE, in 2017. In recent years, the TONNE blockchain has added a number of capabilities by utilising cryptocurrencies, the Telegram app, and other important technology. Most recently, the TONNE Foundation and Tether, the company behind the most popular stablecoin globally, collaborated to allow users to send cryptocurrency payments over the well-known encrypted instant messaging service.
