Nigeria’s Blockchain Vision: 90% Digital Infrastructure Adoption Within a Decade

Obinna Iwuno, President of the Stakeholders in Blockchain Association of Nigeria (SiBAN), has expressed a bold vision for Nigeria’s digital future. In an interview with CoinGeek Backstage, Iwuno predicted that within the next five to ten years, a significant 90% of Nigeria’s digital infrastructure will be built on blockchain technology.

Iwuno’s remarks came on the sidelines of the Digital Nigeria International Conference 2023, where global and regional experts gathered to discuss the latest technological advancements and their impact on Africa. Iwuno emphasized the importance of such events in fostering collaboration and driving innovation in the digital space.

Nigeria has taken significant strides towards a digital economy, with initiatives like the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program equipping millions of Nigerians with technical skills. Additionally, the National Blockchain Policy launched in 2023 outlines a clear roadmap for integrating blockchain into the country’s digital infrastructure.

“What that signifies for us as Nigerians is that we want to see wide adoption of blockchain in our public and private sector. We also want to see inclusive participation where other sectors begin to engage with blockchain,” he told CoinGeek Backstage reporter Becky Liggero.

Iwuno’s prediction of widespread blockchain adoption aligns with Nigeria’s ambitious goals. He believes that the country’s commitment to blockchain technology will position it at the forefront of digital innovation in Africa.

As Nigeria continues to embrace digital transformation, the potential of blockchain technology to revolutionize various sectors becomes increasingly apparent. Events like Digital Nigeria and initiatives like the 3MTT program are crucial in driving adoption and fostering a vibrant blockchain ecosystem in the country.
