PRESS RELEASE | WorldCoin Foundation Announces the World ID SDK and WorldCoin Protocol Launch.

WorldCoin, a project co-founded by Sam Altman, Alex Blania, and Max Novendstern, has gone live and is ready for production, according to a press release from the Worldcoin Foundation.

The launch involves the introduction of the World ID SDK as well as ambitions to expand Orb operations to 35+ locations in 20+ nations worldwide. In parallel, World Assets Ltd., a division of the Foundation, issued the WorldCoin token ($WLD) to the millions of qualified participants in the beta. As of right now, $WLD is listed on CoinMarketCap and used for blockchain transactions.

“In the age of AI, the need for proof of personhood is no longer a topic of serious debate; instead, the critical question is whether or not the proof of personhood solutions we have can be privacy-first, decentralized, and maximally inclusive,” stated Alex Blania, co-founder of Worldcoin and CEO of Tools for Humanity.

With the use of its innovative technology, Worldcoin seeks to give everyone access to the expanding digital and global economy in a decentralized and private manner, regardless of their background, location, or income.

More than 4 billion people worldwide are thought to be without a valid, digitally verifiable identity. This severely restricts access to essential services including healthcare, government assistance, and banking services as well as participation in the global economy.

If it is successful, WorldCoin’s global decentralized identity and financial network could significantly expand economic opportunity, scale a trustworthy and privacy-preserving way to distinguish humans from artificial intelligence online, enable global democratic processes, and eventually show a potential route for AI-funded universal basic income (UBI).

What is WorldCoin?

The goal of WorldCoin is to become the largest, most inclusive identity and financial public utility in the world, owned by everybody. Currently, the WorldCoin protocol consists of:

World ID is a privacy-preserving digital identification created to assist in resolving significant identity-based problems, such as establishing a person’s distinct personhood.
The first digital money to be freely distributed to people simply for being a unique human being is the WorldCoin token (WLD), where regulations permit.
The first World ID-compatible program, World program, was created and is run by Tools for Humanity. It allows for international payments, purchases, and transfers utilizing digital assets and stablecoins backed by fiat currency.
WorldCoin is significantly expanding access to World ID, the digital identity technology that is supported by the WorldCoin ecosystem, in an effort to scale World ID. The project will boost the number of Orbs that are accessible by 1,500 throughout 35 locations worldwide.

The orbs will be based in Africa at:

In Uganda, Kampala
Kenya’s Nairobi
The WorldCoin initiative has confirmed the individuality and humanity of more than 40,000 people per week over the last six months of its beta phase. More than 5 times as many people will be able to sign up for World ID thanks to the 1.5K new Orbs’ availability, which will allow millions more people to join the 2 million people who have already done so.
